Dear Parents/Guardians,
Spring is in the air! Thankfully the days are getting longer and the weather is improving.
Clashmore National School is a hive of activity at the moment with lots of things happening, as you will see below!
1. Swimming Lessons 3rd-6th Class
Pupils from 3rd-6th class will be embarking on 8 weeks of swimming lessons in Aura Youghal beginning on Monday 20th February. The cost of these lessons is €66, payable through the school App. We would greatly appreciate it if this payment could be made in advance of the 20th February.
2. Drama Lessons Junior Infants-2nd Class
Pupils from Junior Infants to 2nd class have started drama classes with Julie Fielers. Classes will run for 7 weeks. There is a fee of €21.50 for Jnr & Snr Infants and a fee of €25 for 1st & 2nd class. Payment for lessons can be made through the school App.
3. Hurling & Fundamental Movements
Míle buíochas to Barry Dunne for conducting 3 weeks of hurling training with all classes. The children thoroughly enjoyed the training.
Pupils from Junior Infants-2nd class are currently enjoying sessions of fundamental movements with Carmel O`keeffe. These sessions will run for 6 weeks in total. We are extremely grateful to the GAA for covering the cost of these lessons.
4. Preparation for First Holy Communion
The First Penance is scheduled for pupils in 2nd class on Thursday 2nd March 2023 at Clashmore Church at 7pm. The First Holy Communion will take place on 29th April in Clashmore Church at 11am.
5. Preparation for The Sacrament of Confirmation
The Service of Light for 5th & 6th Class pupils will take place on Monday 6th March at 7pm in Clashmore Church. Pupils in Clashmore, together with pupils from Piltown and Ballycurrane will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on Monday 20th March at 2pm in Piltown Church. Please note that the school will remain open on this day for all pupils not receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. We wish all of the children in the sacrament classes, every blessing as they prepare for these special occasions.
6. Aldi Play Rugby Stickers
The school is currently collecting the Aldi Play Rugby stickers. If you shop in Aldi we would be most grateful if you could send in these stickers, as the school may be in with a chance of winning prizes, €50,000 being one of them!
7. Reading Buddies
We are currently running reading buddies in school, for the younger children to further develop their love of reading, reading fluency and for them to enjoy the shared reading experience. As a result, Jnr & Snr Infants are paired with children in 3rd & 4th class and 1st & 2nd class pupils are paired with children in 5th & 6th class for 6 weeks. Well done to all of the staff who are co-ordinating this wonderful experience and the children who are making such a great effort.
8. Enrolments for the 2023-2024 School Year
If you wish to enrol your child for the coming school year (2023-2024), we are accepting applications for enrolment. Please contact the office for an enrolment form.

10. Midterm Break
A reminder that the school will be closed for midterm break this coming Thursday 16th & Friday 17th February. The school will re-open again on Monday 20th February.
